Secure Your Website With A SSL Certificate!
Do the benefits of making your website secure outweigh the reasons not to? This is the question webmasters and website owners must ask themselves when deciding whether or not to secure their website with https by adding a secure socket layer certificate.
I think the real question is, can you afford not to secure your website? The way I see it, SSL is the way the internet is going. It seems counter-intuitive and counter-productive to go against a prevailing trend such as this, especially with all the security exploitations we’ve seen over the past few years.
Examining this topic leads to other questions as well. For example, if the cost difference between securing your website and not securing your website is nominal then why not do it?
If all things were equal between your website and your competitor’s website but one was secure and the other website wasn’t, which website would you choose to business with?
I don’t necessarily buy into the idea that SSLs help websites rank higher in the organic search results since I have witnessed first hand websites being on the first page of Google organic search results without a secure website or https.
Therefore I wouldn’t recommend installing a SSL certificate as a way to improve your organic search engine position, but I would certainly make my website secure if I was collecting information from potential clients or had an online shopping cart.
The simplest way of answering the question of to buy or not to buy a secure socket layer certificate is to ask yourself, if you have invested money in website design, search engine optimization or a Better Business Bureau membership?
If you have done one or more of those things then it probably makes sense for you to go one step further and secure your website for a nominal cost. The benefits far outweigh the costs in this scenario.
I know there are people out there showing individuals how to get a free SSL certificates or charging individuals for free secure socket layer certificates but I’m not one hundred percent certain those methods are returning desirable response codes from web servers.
This is an issue (images above) I just ran across with a couple of my own websites. I was seeing an unexpected and troubling response code from my web server according to Domain Tools. I don’t believe either of us want to see a 500 or SSL negotiation failed response code from the web servers hosting our money sites.
The response code quagmire listed above could present problems to those who want their websites properly indexed by search engines. Check your website’s response code here.
Put your best website forward and improve your chances of converting visitors into leads by securing your website with a SSL certificate. Instill confidence, a sense of security and trustworthiness in those people thinking about doing business with you through your website.
secure your websiteThere is a big difference between my service and other potential service providers - I know my service results in your web server returning the proper 200 response code and NOT the dreaded 500 response code which means SSL negotiation failed.
Stop trying to circumvent the system by using alleged FREE secure socket layer certificates that may or may not be returning expected server responses. Don’t derail the progress of your website in the organic search rankings by trying to avoid paying a nominal fee for a real SSL certificate.
